Our first act is:
Leonard from the Swiss Guard.
His special talent is making the Pope laugh on his days off when he's not "poping"
Our second contestant is:
Guappa, the piano accordionist.
He played in front of the cafe we were in on the first night and was so disinterested that when he came around with his hat for money, we couldn't bring ourselves to give him anything, but we did let him know that he didn't look like he was enjoying himself. A couple of days later, we were sitting in a different piazza and he popped up again, this time he was as happy as Larry. He noticed us in the cafe and gave us a "what about that time?" look and this time money changed hands.
Well done Guappa, you're through to the next round.
Our third act is:
Guiseppe, the Italian Elvis impersonator.
Bless his heart, this chap had a huge crowd around him as he shuffled and mimed to Blue Suede Shoes. He was a little like a drunk uncle at a wedding.
Our forth contestants are a group of Brazilian cobblestone acrobats who were all totally buff and one looked a lot like P.Diddy.
They laid out some smooth beats on bongos and tambourines and sang a chanting song to get the crowd involved and then they took turns at doing gymnastic mat routines on the street. They were amazing.
It's a yes from both of us!
Our fifth and final act is:
Antoinette, another piano accordionist.
It's not often that we get two contestants playing the same instrument, but this girl was so into her music that we just had to let her into the competition. She played with feeling and put her heart and soul into it. You could tell she was really feeling the music.
