Oh I Do LIke To Be Beside The Seaside

Our tour today took us out to The Bosphorus on the "Zoe".

A private charter just for us.

When one lives in Istanbul in the summer it is imperative that one has suitable accommodation.  Thee are old summer houses of the Sultan and the Sultan's daughter and there are houses for women and different ones for men.
They are now mostly either private high schools or hotels

This is the bridge that spans across The Bosphorus and connects the two halves of Istanbul.  The Asian half and the European half.  Well, when I say half, but only 3% of Turkey is actually located in Europe.

When it was built it was the 4th longest bridge in the world.

Our guide, Oozy was obsessed with famous people.  He continuously talked about the "Top Models" and actors and politicians that he had come into contact with..... so he was keen to point out this nightclub and then proceeded to list all 2000+ celebs who had walked through it's doors and probably knew him personally!

Here is the celebrity frequented nightclub.

This could be a nice little fixer upper.

In Australia we use plastic or wooden owls to keep the birds off balconies........ In Turkey, you use Elvis lookalikes.

The happy group with their apple tea and over confident tour guide.

Show us your good side Robbo!

The residential side of Istanbul

After a day out on the water, what better than to immerse yourself in the local culture and head to the Spice Market.

Our little friend, Oozie was sharing a joke that probably wasn't too funny, and if we have come to know Oozie, it was probably something about him being some sort of spicy sex symbol!

You know how at home, we tend to think of pigeons as a bit of a pooey pest..... well here, in Turkey they make business out of them.  In the olden days they carved pigeon houses out of the rock formations so they could collect the bird poo for fertiliser, but today they just sell bird seed to feed them.

This lady is selling plates of bird seed and Madds has just chased all the birds away!
