Kos We Can!

One easy ferry ride away and we arrived on the little island of Kos.  I say little, but it takes about an hour to drive the length of it.

We stayed in a hotel by the water and this was the first thing we saw every time we came through the front door.  A little disturbing!

Our room overlooked the park across the road and we were lucky enough to be there on the same night as the Greek Communist Party was having a rally there.  It might have been quite interesting to listen to if it wasn't in Greek!  So we went out and by the time we got back they were packing up all the chairs - not very ragey those communists!

Next to our hotel was this lovely hotel / restaurant H2O which was right on the water.  They had lovely food and a fabulous outlook where it all happened.  There were ferries coming and going, boats pulling in and out, people swimming past the restaurant in their snorkelling gear - busy!

Kos is also very touristy, but I don't know how many of these items would have been sold!

One of the most famous things about Kos is Hippocrates' Tree.  It is said that he used to sit under it and teach his pupils.  The tree has scaffolding all around it to hold up the branches and is fenced off.  Madds was extremely keen to see it, but was a little disappointed at the upkeep of the area.  Show some respect Kosians!  However, perhaps with the economic troubles Greece has been going through, keeping an area around a tree tidy is not their highest priority?

When I booked the hotel, I did so because of it's proximity to the beach.  However, when we got there the beach was three metres from wall to water!  This included sunbeds and sand bags, so not a lot of room for cricket!  This man was sitting a few sunbeds down from us, but he was in the shade, so this is where he decided to sit!  He was only there for a few moments though because his wife saw us taking this photo and she said something to him.  He moved 2 feet to the right.

Fish spas!  They're all the rage here.  We passed 3 shops on the island.  So after a walk around the old town, we popped in for a bit of a nibble.  Have you tried this before?  I've only done it once in Singapore and Madds and Lu hadn't tried it.

It feels a little bit like you have electric current running through your feet.

Now for a little game for you all (Jacks, you'll enjoy this)

Can you match the feet to the person?

Dinner had great anticipation as we were recommended this restaurant from the very knowledgeable lady at the fish shop.

Unfortunately everything we ordered was a bit shit!  And this was the champas list.  You could either have Moet for $1M or $23.50 for a Spewmante!  So we had wine.

They did however give us this little caraffe of Rakamelo which was a honey and cinnamon flavoured liquery spirit.  Very nice.

Day 2 in Kos saw us trying to find a bigger beach and we were directed to Paradise Beach at the other end of the island.  This is what we came across.  Apparently in the Greek Islands people are not so fussed on wearing so many clothes!  I do think, however that it is the foreigners who are doing the stripping!

These ladies, for example were not concerned about anything.

Lu asked, "Are we feeling a little overdressed on the beach today?"
To which I replied, "I'm wearing a bloody burka!"

At the top of Kos island there is a mountain and little village called Zia.  It's full of traditional Greek buildings with the blue and white, but lots of panoramic viewed restaurants and the obligatory tourist shops.

I wonder how customs would go if I tried to get one of these back in to Australia?

We stopped of for a last drink before heading back down the mountain and there was a Big Fat Greek Pre-Meal Wedding going on and we saw the BEST head of hair ever!  We tried to take more photos, but we were caught by one of the wedding party.  All good humoured, but they did wonder why we wanted photos of them.

Anyone else see anything wrong with this?
