Right next to Sandwich there is a little place called "Deal" where Henry VIII built a fortress in the shape of a tudor rose.
These holes were in the roof of the entrance so that if the castle was penetrated through the steel bolted front door, they could arrow them from the roof - honestly, they thought of everything!
People here in England still surprise me as to where they choose to picnic! This is the car park of the Deal Castle and over the road is the picturesque seaside!
